Frequently asked questions

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of the relaxing state of hypnosis combined with other therapeutic techniques e.g. hypnotic suggestions.

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation.

Can everybody be hypnotised?
Yes.

Can I be controlled or made to do something silly?
No - you will never be out of control, always wide awake, and just very relaxed.

Will I remember everything?
Yes.

Why should I choose you as my therapist?
Good question. You may be surfing the internet and looking at several choices. All I can really say is that what you read on this website is what you get - as a professional hypnotherapist in Cheltenham I have worked successfully with several thousand clients for many years on a full time basis.

By coming to see me you can be sure of experience, care, expertise, and professionalism, with sessions conducted in relaxing, confidential and comfortable surroundings. Above all, you will simply get good quality professional therapy.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes. There is no obligation and it usually lasts around 30-40 minutes. Not normally required for smoking cessation. I am always happy to meet people and have a chat with them.

Can I bring someone with me to the consultation?
Yes of course if you want to.

How much do you charge?
See my fees page.

How many sessions will I need?
Very simple symptoms such as stopping smoking can be dealt with in just one single session. More 'deep rooted' anxieties or problems can take more sessions or a course of therapy.

Do you offer any guarantees?
It is impossible to guarantee the outcome of therapy - and in fact no professional therapist should. It is important that the client takes some responibility for their therapy and getting better / stopping smoking / getting through therapy etc.

The only thing I can guarantee is that I will do the very best that I possibly can to help you.

Do you do home visits?
No, sorry. I only work from my office in the Pittville Lawn Practice.

What hours and days do you work?
Monday to Friday full time - office hours 10am - 6pm.

Do you do evening or weekend appointments?
As I share offices in a doctors/dentists clinic I can only offer appointments during office hours so regrettably I do not have any evening or Saturday appointments.

How do I book an appointment?
You can book a consultation by using any of the methods listed on my contact page.

Feel free to email any questions that you may have to me directly at richard@richardparsons.net

Where do I park?
Parking directly outside the clinic is limited to residents in the street so I recommend parking on the street either over on the other side of Pittville Lawn towards the park or there are always some free street parking spaces available on Central Cross Drive, Albert Road or Pittville Crescent, all just a few minutes walk from the practice.

View large streetmap showing these streets

The other convenient place to park is the large Portland Street Car Park, and walking to the clinic through the green gates takes two or three minutes.

What do I do when I arrive?
On your arrival at Pittville Lawn Practice just say that you are there to see me and have a seat in reception where I will come and find you - there is no need to give your name, all sessions are strictly confidential.

There are toilets (at the bottom of the stairs) and drinks facilities near the reception area.
